Volunteer Opportunities at Richmond Youth Service Agency (RYSA)
Currently, Richmond Youth Centre has two major programs running at RYSA: Generations Homework Club (GHC) and U-Connect Crew (UCC).
GHC is a tutor based homework club. RYSA provides the free homework tutorial service for kids in East Richmond Community. GHC is build upon youth volunteers, age range from 13~18, who spent one on one time with the kids, age range from 8~12. The program is designed to focus not on academic success but to strengthen the desires and interests in learning in the kids. The primary strategies utilized by GHC are positive communication, supportive relationship, and Student-Centered Learning. GHC is held on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 to 6:00. Although volunteers are encouraged arrive on time, RYSA understands the difficulties and practicalities the volunteers have to face, and therefore, RYSA requests all volunteers aim to arrive before 4:00pm.
U-Connect Crew is a youth based and youth driven volunteer team. It is divided into three components: U-Do, U-Write, and U-Talk. U-Do is a project management and leadership development aspect of the U-Connect Crew. Their job is to explore their community and develop community service projects of their choice. The youth will decide the path of their projects and gather all necessary resources for their services. U-Write is a communication and expression based team. Their job is to ensure the relevancy of the website and prepare newsletters for the RYSA. Recently RYSA and Richmond News has partnered up and planning to insert RYSA youth Newsletter into Richmond News Youth Section. U-Talk is a team designed to collect information on youth community and provide appropriate presentations, information sessions, and suggestions to different bodies of influences. U-Connect Crew meets up one a week on Friday Night from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
